Enhance your lighting with vintage-style LED bulbs

Your choice of lighting can considerably enhance a room’s décor and could create a wonderful focal point. While finding stylish lights which suit your spaces will be your priority, it is also important to select the right bulbs.

In most cases, it is the light fitting which is the star of the show and it will be designed to conceal the light bulb or bulbs. However, vintage LED bulbs enable you to make a feature of your bulbs and to lend a special quality to your decorative scheme. LED filament bulbs are game changers which could make all the difference.

What are LED lightbulbs?

Traditional incandescent lightbulbs create light by generating heat. All diodes emit photons (particles of electromagnetic energy), but only certain types of diodes emit that electromagnetic energy as light rather than heat. A light emitting diode (LED) is a solid-state lighting (SSL) technology which emits light from a piece of solid matter. As LEDs emit only light and very limited heat, they are more energy efficient and can significantly reduce your energy bills.

What are filament bulbs?

Incandescent bulbs feature carbon or tungsten filaments which heat up when you turn them on. With Edison bulbs, those filaments are shaped into twists, loops and lines for visual impact and the glass lightbulbs can also be fashioned into interesting shapes including globes and tubes.

What are LED filament bulbs?

LED filament bulbs look like traditional Edison styles but feature metal strips which are lined with light emitting diodes. The metal strips are typically covered with glass or another clear material and then coated with phosphor to produce warmer light, reminiscent of incandescent bulbs. The appearance of LED filament bulbs are very similar to vintage bulbs and their diodes are positioned so as to radiate light in the same way.

The really good news is that LED filament bulbs generate less heat than traditional LEDs because the diodes are spaced more widely apart. This means that they dissipate heat more easily and so often deliver greater longevity than standard LEDs.

Make a feature of your LED filament bulbs

You can create unique, stylish and eye-catching looks with your LED filament bulbs. They will bring a new dimension to pendant lights and lamps that boast clear shades or exposed bulbs. Both your light fitting and your bulbs can be used to lift the look of your rooms and the filament bulbs are available for most lights.

With a variety of filaments and bulb shapes to choose from, the effects that you can create are unlimited. While these bulbs are vintage in style, they are also right on trend and so complement both period and contemporary homes. Whether you feel that your simple glass pedant could benefit from a lift or your table lamp could be more inspiring, LED filament light bulbs provide the perfect solutions.

Once merely functional but now interesting decorative features for your interior, lightbulbs can make rather than break your décor.
