To establish how low a light will actually hang you must take into consideration both the dimensions of the light itself and the length of the chain or chord from which it is suspended and whether or not that chain or chord can be shortened to suit your purposes.

Where to position a pendant light

There are areas in the home where pendant lights can be used to great effect but where the ceiling height is of little consequence. Pendants are a striking way to illuminate dining tables and kitchen islands. These are areas which require targeted lighting but where people do not walk and so lights can hang lower without being a hazard or looking out of place. You could also consider pedants for lighting work areas like desks and they are a useful way to illuminate any special features in a room which deserve to be highlighted.
